STAG & HOUNDS - May 10

Investigation Site

Stag & Hounds
Old Market Street
Bristol

History of the Site

The Stag & Hounds Public House was originally built around 1483, and was used as a private dwelling. Sometime during the 18th Century the owners decided to convert it into a public house.

During the Norman times, the first floor was used as a court set up for the duration of a fair or market to deal with travellers who were not resident in the town. It is believed that until the introduction of the "Courts Act 1971", it was the last active Court of Pierpower, although it had not actually been used since the abolition of the fair in 1870.

The structure was originally flanked by houses, but the building of a dual carriageway underpass has left it isolated. As with all buildings of this age, it has needed repairs through the years, with a partial rebuild in the 1960's and also a full refurb in 1987.

Investigation Report

The team arrived at the Public House at around 11pm, and where really glad to get there as it made a welcoming light to the really wet night. They were met by Scott and Christine and where then given a tour around the building whilst being told more about the history of the Pub. They explained that SGPIT had not been the first team to hold a vigil within the structure, but that they wanted to know if they were able to watch as they had not with any of the others. The team considered this an honour and welcomed them to join in.

As with all their investigations, the team got about setting up the equipment. They placed a "Locked Off" camera on the second floor, as this was there had been reports of a figure in a robe, they also placed a motion camera in the Panel Room as it was told that the previous paranormal team had a table collapse by itself whilst doing their investigation. Another camera was placed in the cellar with the receiver in the bar above so that they could monitor any activity, as it was believed this was the most "active" room in the building. The final "Locked off" camera was placed on the 2nd floor hallway facing the stairs to the next floor.

With all the equipment in place, the team made their way into the cellar to begin their investigation. They started to call out into the cellar and Mary said that she wanted to move from near the door as she could feel the presence of someone very close and that she had the feeling of her hair being touched. Marlene stood where Mary had been, and also had the sensation of someone being very near to her. Around the same time, Barry started to feel a burning sensation and Scott also expressed the feeling of burning up as well as a tickly feeling on the back of his neck. The team also heard a dog barking whilst they where calling out, followed by a loud bang and the sound of someone walking above them.

The team then moved into the bar area for their next part of the investigation. They all sat around in complete silence listening to the room. Suddenly Christine screamed out and explained that she had just seen a white form go by the kitchen door. The team took several photo's straight away and also moved the camera to focus on this area whilst asking out into the room for the figure to come forward again, but there was nothing more (except Christine shaking). They all sat around again, and heard what sound like a table being dragged along the floor in the room above them, so the men raced up to see what was causing the noise but were unable to find it as none of the tables had been moved.

Moving to the Panel room next, the decided to perform a seance. Mary felt her fingers bending over as well as the names Ivan and Edward come into her head. All the team felt the sensation of the table being moved slightly. The men decided that they wanted to go back into the cellar whilst the ladies performed another seance. Sandra said that she had felt the presence of someone being close by her all night and that it was now getting uncomfortable. Down in the cellar, Barry was starting to feel sick and had to come out for air. The team decided to end the investigation at around 3.30am.

Conclusion

The Stag & Hounds Public House was a really old and lovely looking building that the team had been really excited to be able to investigate, and they were not disappointed.

They found that the Cellar proved to be the most active location, with many different unexplained activities taking place, and with most of the team experiencing something strange. The team had also found Orbs on the camera's but still are unable to rule out dust or small insects.

The white form that Christine had seen really had scared her, but we are unable to confirm exactly what caused this, as there is a small chance it could have been caused by passing car lights, but we don't believe this to be the case due to the curtains being closed and of all the other activity that was going on throughout the investingation.

***We would like to thank Scott and Christine for the great vigil in such a wonderful and interesting location***
