THE RAM INN – January 2009
Investigation Site
The Ram Inn Public House
Wotton Under Edge
Gloustershire
History of the Site
The building is believed to have been built around 1145, and is a grade 2 listed building. The current owner (John Humbhries) bought the building for a small sum of £2600 from the brewery in 1968 to prevent the structure from demolition. It was around this time that it stopped being a public house.
The Ram hosts many rooms throughout the structure, and has also a secret tunnel that runs through to the church, which is believed to have been used by Highway men in times of escape. It is also believed to have been built on a pagan burial site.

Investigation Report
For the sixth time the SGPIT team revisited the Ram Inn, but this time, was joined by another team known as the Ghost Challengers, this was their first experience of the Ram (although they have previously worked together on other investigations). Joining the teams, a journalist from the local gazette named Ali who had not attended any kind of paranormal investigation before. The teams were very grateful for her attendance.
Arriving around 10pm, the teams received a warm welcome from John the landlord who gave the Ghost Challengers a brief history of The Inn whilst the members who had visited before set up the equipment.
A motion camera was placed downstairs in the bar area, whilst a second motion camera was set up in a room known as the Mayflower where it was carefully placed facing the fire place. They also set up two locked of cameras, one in the Witches room and one in the Bishops room.
With the equipment all installed and ready to go the teams joined together and made their way to the bar area for the first vigil of the evening. Whilst in the bar the temperature was noticeably cold by most of the people present, but Richard (a member of the Ghost Challengers) claimed that he felt a sudden rush of warm air touch the side of his face, and Mary, who had been on several investigations with the team, believed that she saw what only could be described as a black shape which appeared to be standing behind Marlene. Although the EMF reader used by the teams did not pick up any paranormal activity, there was an overwhelming feeling of not being alone in the bar area.
After all the readings had been completed, the team setup a trigger object test in one of the rooms down stairs. This was made up of a ball and 2 coins led in a little flour, to see if anything/anyone moves them with a "Lock off" camera focused on the setup. They also placed many motion detectors in the Mayflower room.
The team have recently purchased a new piece of equipment, a motion sensor camera, and decided to set this up in the Witches room with a portable TV to watch back any movement recorded.
With this feeling dominating all of the team members Sue decided to call out to sprits to see if they would get any response from the cause. In one corner of the room a loud bang was heard by all, also Mary kept coming up with a mans name, John Church, which will be investigated at a later date, to see if any connections are linked to the Ram.
The decision was made by the SGPIT to carry out a vigil upstairs in the Bishops room, whilst the Ghost Challengers stayed in the barn area to carry out more observations. After an hour it was clear that no paranormal activity was going to occur which left the team feeling very disappointed, although Gill did catch an orb on the camera from one of the curtains in the room.
Once they had completed the vigil on the upper floor they then returned to join the other team, who were currently using a table to do a séance. Sue and Ali joined the table and soon everyone felt the table lift as if someone was pushing it up from underneath and Richard had a small stone thrown at him, so it appears that most of the activity was taking place in the Barn room.
During the investigation the teams took a short break and ventured outside where Andy decided to take pictures of the windows on the top floor and a mist could clearly be seen in 1 of the windows.
After the break they all decided to enter the Mayflower room and check on the motion camera, whilst the teams were studying the camera lots of orbs were coming from the fireplace which made watching very fascinating.
They brought there investigation at the Ram to an end at about 3.30am, all feeling very satisfied with how the investigation went.
Conclusion
Well after a very interesting night at the Ram Inn, the team believed that Ali enjoyed her first time with the team. The Ghost Challengers are hoping to book another vigil there and are currently discussing it with John the landlord. The article that Ali wrote for the local paper concerning the investigation was very interesting and done the teams proud.
There seemed to be a great deal of activity coming from the lower floors on this visit and the team where really happy with the results. They were able to spot many orbs in the rooms which the team found really interesting.
Although this location has been visited several times by the team, they find that everytime is just filled with so much activity that they need to return to investigate further, and again on this visit, they were not let down. To view the report that was written by Ali Click here
***We would like to thank John for allowing the team to perform another investigation at Inn and also to Ali for coming on her first investigation.***
