THE HAMBROOK BAKERY – September 2007

Investigation Site

The Hambrook Bakery
Hambrook
Bristol

History of the Site

The bakery was the hub of the small village of Hambrook for many years. The building itself dates back to around the 1700's

In 1831, the bakery was owned and run by a local baker called Nathaniel Good, and he passed this on to his family upon retiring. The bakery stayed as the family business right up until 1932, when it was sold over to the Turners.

Paranormal Activity Eyewitness Reports

The building has stood for many decades and has had many people pass through its structure, but the only reported paranormal activity to date, is the reports of noises being heard from the top floor when there was no one in up there.

Investigation Report

All members of the team arrived at the building around 10pm. Due to the fact that the original bakery building was currently in the middle of being renovated into a distillery, the team needed to take extra care as there where many tools and different machinery around that could cause some harm.

They all sat for a short while and let the building settle down a little, before they performed the standard baseline tests. Whilst they where waiting, they all heard the sound of foot steps coming from above. Pete went up to investigate the noise but was not able to find the cause. With there nothing to find, they continued as normal. The results are listed below:

Entrance Room
TEMP: 13.4 degrees
EMFS: 0

Extension Room
TEMP: 12.9 degrees
EMFS: 0

2nd Room
TEMP: 13.2 degrees
EMFS: 0

2nd Floor
TEMP: 12.7 degrees
EMFS: 0

3rd Floor
TEMP: 12.4 degrees
EMFS: 0

2nd Room on 3rd Floor
TEMP: 12.4 degrees
EMFS: 3 to 4

Once the team had completed the tests, they broke up into 2 groups. The first team consisting of Gill, Pete and Sue went up to a little room on the first floor, whilst Marlene, Sandra and Michelle went up to the second floor.

As the second team entered their first location, Sandra felt a draft of hot air around her legs. This has happened to Sandra several times whilst on investigations, normally when they have found plenty of activity, so this encouraged the rest of the team.

Whilst the team where on the second floor, they were aware of a large amount of back ground noise, and wanted to try and eliminate it from the investigation. They were able to determine what was traffic noise, and also could hear the sound of a metal shutter rattling. They thought it was caused by either the wind or possibly a branch brushing up against it, but up on further investigation, the team where unable to determine the cause as there was nothing around or any wind in the evening.

Another interesting thing the team noticed whilst in the room was a distinctive musty smell that seemed to pass through and then vanished.

Both teams rejoined together on the top floor in an aim to see if they would be able to hear the mystery footsteps. The team had also taken a table with them and decided that they would perform a mini seance, so they all sat around the table and joined hands. The night vision camera picked up a few little bright lights, but the team where also aware of there being flies in the room, so where not too sure if this was significant. Marlene felt a cold breeze around her face, and Pete felt the sensation of having someone standing behind him. They done a second EMFS reading and found that it was now showing 7 to 9, so this showed that there had been an increase in energy within the room.

They all then moved down to the 2nd floor and used a glass to try and make contact with any spirits in the building. Both Marlene and Sue felt a very cold breeze across their fingers, and found that after a short while they were so cold that they had to stop and warm their fingers. Pete again felt the feeling of someone behind him and turned around to see if there was anyone there, and at the same time, Marlene believed she noticed a face in the doorway. The team could also hear a shuffling noise coming from the corner of the room so they went over to investigate, but where unable to find anything.

Another interesting thing the team noticed was that the metal shutter had stopped making any noise whilst the team had been in the room. The glass itself had failed to move during the experiment. The team then moved to the ground floor.

Before the team finished the investigation, they decided to go to the outer buildings. Marlene asked out if there where any children playing with the horses, and believed that she heard a horse naying, Sue also said that she had heard it.

Conclusion

The team was really looking forward to this investigation because of the age of the building and also as they had been the first investigation team to be allowed to perform an investigation.

After the night, the team reflected and agreed that they had all heard the foot steps upstairs, and also the shutter rattling without any reason. They tried to find reasonable explanations for the various feelings encountered by the team, but could not come up with any.

There where many photos taken and some had what looked like really bright orgs on them, and on the Night vision camera, they had caught four bright lights, one behind each other which was interesting. The other solid unexplained activity was the sound of the horse in the outer buildings, which had been also captured on the voice recorder.

The building was a pleasure to investigate and really had many different experiences for the team which has all got them wanting to re-visit it in the future. Michelle felt that the name Irene was important, and Marlene kept on picking up the name Bertha, so this will give the team plenty to research.

***We would like to thank Mr & Mrs Stone for letting the SGPIT into the building for the evening.***
